Today is the last day of the Cup No 1 in Frederikshavn. As you recall, the girls placed in the B bracket after the round robin play. We won the semifinal yesterday, which put us in the final today.
We played another team from the US, a tournament team called the National Soccer Academy. The first half was exciting with the ball too often near our goal. Matani had some terrific saves! The second half showed more aggressive play by the Lions including some good shots on goal. Unfortunately, the NSA sneaked one past our defense with 7 mns left to play and we were unable to match the score. A loss of 0-1 for us.
Norman told the girls that he was very pleased with how well we played this tournament; getting to the championship game was a big achievement for our first international competition. We played 5 games in 4 days in heat, wind, sun and steady rain. Now on to the Gothia Cup and a whole new set of competitors.
After the game today, Norman took us downtown for a real meal for a break from the cafeteria food.
